Preparing for Your Boudoir Photo Session

The more you prepare, the smoother your session will go and the happier you will be with the end result. I am here every step of the way to answer all your questions, offer input, and cheer you on. Below is a rough timeline to help you prepare with ease.
Please note that if some of these things are not for you, that is totally fine!

Four Weeks Before

  • Start gathering your clothing items and props. Here are some ideas: lingerie, white tank top, big loose cozy sweater, oversized button up, your significant other's shirt, simple underwear and bra set, robe, silky pj shirt, a little boho peasant dress, heels, boots etc... Text me as you prepare your looks so that I can give input. Lean toward black, white, neutrals, deep colors, or pastels. Avoid bright colors.

  • TRY EVERYTHING ON. It is important that you already know that you feel good in what you'll be wearing.

  • Remove any tags that show through your lingerie.

  • Google boudoir images and screenshot your top 5 poses and/or looks or types of images and send to me. We will use these for inspiration to ensure we prioritize what is most important to you during the shoot.

  • Think about the hair and make up look you want. Practice if you are doing it yourself. Be mindful of overly shiny make-up.

  • Schedule your glam appointments: hair & makeup (schedule for day of), waxing (schedule for 5-7 days before), haircut/color (schedule for week before), mani/pedi (schedule for a few days before)

One Week Before

  • Haircut/color: If you want to get your hair cut or colored it is best done with at least a week to settle. Make sure you go to someone you trust and remember that this is probably not the time to try something outrageous and new.

  • Mani/pedi

  • Wax

  • Drink a lot of water and try to keep alcohol and greasy/sugary foods to a minimum. This will help your skin look glowy and supple! I also recommend using a cold roller on your face daily if you are prone to breakouts. I did this the week before my wedding and did not have a single zit!

  • Spray tans are not recommended - they will show up orange and streaky on camera.

  • Make arrangements for your photo session to be interruption free. If you have kids you can ask your partner to take them on an outing for a few hours. For curious pets think about how to entertain them during the shoot so they don't photo bomb or beg for attention.

The Day Before

  • Clean, tidy, and prepare any areas of your home that we may be shooting in. You may need to change your sheets or bedspread to something more neutral. We will discuss this ahead of time.

  • Do any body prep you can do ahead of time. For example, if you are doing your own nails this would be the time to paint them.

  • Exfoliate with a body scrub or scrubbing gloves for an extra glow.

  • Make a special playlist that will put you in the groove during the shoot. There are lots of boudoir/sensual playlists on Spotify that you can pull from.

  • Get a good night's rest!

The Day Of

  • Shave and lotion up!

  • Do your hair and make up.

  • Getting ready will take a lot longer than you think! Budget enough to have all glam done 30 minutes prior to my arrival. (You do not need to have your lingerie on yet. We can decide what you'll wear first when I arrive).

  • Skip deodorant or use something clear.

  • Wear loose clothes while you get ready (like a robe) so that there are no deep indents from tight clothing on your skin.

  • Eat something light and nourishing for breakfast. It is important to feel energized and good in your body, but not gassy or bloaty.

  • Feel free to have a little champagne/wine/beer on hand during the shoot.

  • Play your sexy playlist while you get ready to get in the mood.

  • Relax and trust the process. This day is for you and the photo session should feel fun and empowering!
